Donegal minors battle the weather for draw against Sligo

DONEGAL minors began their new campaign with a battling Minor League draw against Sligo.

Donegal 1-5 Sligo 0-8

It was very much a game of two halves at Pairc Aodh Ruadh in Ballyshannon as the teams fought it out in dreadful conditions.

Donegal led by seven points, 1-5 to 0-1, at half-time. Luke Barrett’s men didn’t score against the elements in the second half, but ground out a useful draw.

Fionnan Coyle and Daniel Gildea kick-started Donegal while Eoin O’Donnell landed a ’45.

The Tir Chonaill goal arrived on 17 minutes when Stephen McFadden blasted home ager a Blake McGarvey free was only partially cleared.

Sligo roared back in the second half and, with ten minutes to go, the Yeats men were level.

Donegal held firm to take a share of the spoils.
