Sheephaven divers brave Storm Jorge in Mulroy Bay

THE month may have changed but the weather has stayed the same, nonetheless Sheephaven divers were able to find a few safe places to get into the water over the weekend.

On Saturday morning before Storm Jorges’ arrival the divers went to Woodquarter on the upper reaches of Broadwater in Mulroy Bay and put in a 30 minute snorkel in clear but very cold water conditions.

With air temperatures of 1.5 degrees Celsius the water at 5 degrees didn’t feel much warmer and one lap around the island was enough for the day that was in it.

Overnight the storm came roaring in as predicted and by Sunday morning it had settled enough to allow for the regular Sunday morning snorkel in PortnaBlagh.

Taking a prudent approach to the conditions the divers’ stayed out of the breaking waves and were able to safely ride out the swell as they swam across towards the harbour towards the caves.

Water temperature was not as obviously cold as the previous morning and despite the few remaining gusts from of the overnight storm it was pleasure to be in the water.

Once again well done to the Dunfanaghy Dippers, whose numbers seem to be growing as the weeks go along – a bracing way to reboot for the week ahead.
