10 beds at LUH Short-Stay ward must be re-opened permanently- Deputy Mac Lochlainn

Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has called on the HSE and the next government to permanently re-open all the beds in Letterkenny University Hospital’s Short Stay Ward.

He was responding to the latest response from the HSE on behalf of the acting Minister for Health, Simon Harris.

Deputy Mac Lochlainn said “While I welcome confirmation that all of the beds in the Short Stay Ward will remain open until the end of June of this year, this is only on a temporary basis for 10 of them.

“I again call on the HSE and indeed the next government to permanently reopen all of these beds.

The Sinn Fein Deputy added that it is outrageous that these beds were ever allowed to be closed when there has been a beds crisis at the hospital for so long.

He said “It has been a painstaking campaign to get these beds reopened and indeed it has dragged on further now for over a year since the outgoing and acting Minister promised that these beds would all be reopened.

“I am determined to see this campaign through to a successful conclusion and then to fight for a major increased investment in our health services across Donegal over the next period of government”.
