Councillor says ALL public council buildings should close

A local county councillor has demanded that all county council offices close as a matter of urgency to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Councillor Micheal Mac Giola Easbuig said it is “madness” that local council offices are still open.

He said there is no reason why council business cannot be conducted behind close doors.

He said “I just cannot believe that public council offices are remaining open to the public at this time.

“Yes, it is important that people have access to essential services and if there are issues with their water or whatever they should be able to contact council staff.

“But this can easily be done by telephone or online. I think asking people to come in and talk face-to-face with council staff is irresponsible.”
