Gardaí are investigating a ‘disturbing’ incident after two men forced their way into an elderly man’s home.
The home intrusion took place in Manorcunningham during the daytime on Wednesday last (approx 12noon).
A woman was at home with her elderly father when she heard a bang on the front door.
She assumed it was somebody coming to read their electricity meter, but when she went to get a stool to assist the person, she was startled by her father shouting for help.
Two men had rushed into the front room of the home and ran out again as soon as they realised somebody was in the house, according to garda reports.
The men made their getaway in a small silver car which was parked adjacent to the house. Nothing was taken from the home. However, the front door was damaged when the men forced open the lock.
In an attempt to find the intruders Gardaí have issued a description of the men who are said to be in their late 20s or early 30s with dark hair.
Gardaí are investigating possibilities that the incident was linked to a burglary in the area on the same day.
Another probe was launched after a home in Killyverry Newtowncunningham was ransacked sometime between 9am on Wednesday 11th March and 8.15pm Thursday 12th March.
The rear bedroom window of the house was forced open as intruders entered and searched the home. Nothing was taken in this case.
Gardaí are appealing to people in the area to report any information, including dashcam footage, which may help with the investigations. Contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 0749167100
