‘Stick together and we will get through this’ – Seamus Coleman

SEAMUS Coleman, the Republic of Ireland captain, has urged the Irish people to ‘stick together’ as the coronavirus crisis deepens across the world.

The Killybegs men last night made a €20,000 donation to Feed The Heroes, a campaign to provide food for frontline workers across Ireland.

The Everton and Ireland star said, in a special video message played on Off The Ball, how proud he was of Ireland’s frontline staff.

“It is a tough time for all of us at the moment, for all Irish people, for all people around the world, but speaking for Irish people that I know, we are a very proud nation,” said Coleman, who was alerted to the GoFundMe page for Feed The Heroes by ex-Ireland player Keith Andrews.

“We stick together, we work hard for each other and though I know it is a tough time at the minute, we will get through this. Stay positive and keep fighting.”

Coleman stressed the importance of following the various guidelines and procedures that have been put in place in an attempt to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

He said: “I’d just like to make a point to say to the people of Ireland that they should listen to the guidelines, do what you can to get this virus away as quick as we possibly can.

“If that means staying indoors, something we don’t like to do or want to do, it is a small price to pay. I want to speak to the younger generation particularly. Stay indoors, do what’s right. I want us all to stick together at this time.”
