Two new Covid-19 testing centres to open in Donegal today

TWO new Covid-19 testing centres will open in Donegal today as testing across the country gathers momentum.

Testing centres have been set up at O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny and at the Lakeside Centre in Ballyshannon.

They will add to the existing centre at St Conal’s Hospital in Letterkenny, but that facility is expected to close once the testing at O’Donnell Park is fully operational.

A drive of GAA members by the St Eunan’s GAA club has volunteers doing four-hour shifts with all slots filled between today at 2pm, when testing will get underway, and Saturday-week.

A drive-thru test centre has been set up at O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny

“We have a role to play now and we want to make sure the test centre at O’Donnell Park runs smoothly,” said St Eunan’s club chairman John Haran.

“We have had a great response from members so far. This could be a long process yet, so the more volunteers we have the less burden on everyone. It has been great to get all the help.”

The two new drive-thru facilities are to be added by an additional test centre in Buncrana.

To date, there have been 12 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus in Donegal.
