Virtual tea parties taking place in memory of Donegal mum Jasmine

Many cups of tea are being raised in memory of a young Donegal woman this week as part of the latest ‘Smile for Jasmine’ project.

The ‘Smile for Jasmine’ campaign is a family-led charity project in memory of mum of two Jasmine McMonagle, aged 28, who was tragically killed at her home in Killygordan in January 2019.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, Jasmine’s family have taken all their fundraising efforts online to support people in need at this time.

They have launched a ‘Virtual Tea Party’ that anyone can join from home in support of ALONE Ireland.

ALONE, the organisation that runs a helpline for older people, has seen an increasing demand for support during the coronavirus pandemic.

The new ‘Smile for Jasmine’ tea parties have been established in honour of Jasmine’s love for older people.

Her family wrote: “We know that had Jasmine still been here with her family she would have wanted to do something to help at this time so we decided on helping older people through the ALONE Ireland Charity.

“Jasmine had the greatest respect for older people. She was very close to her granny Rose, when her granny passed away Jasmine wrote a special poem for her and had a Rose tattooed in her memory.

“Jasmine would have been very concerned for her granddad at this time who will be 93 in July.

“The elderly members of our country are on all of our minds at this moment and we are all wondering how we can help them.

“So what should you do. Start by telling your friends and family that you are going to have a tea party. You can have your own private tea party or you can set one up with friends and family online through video call. It can be as big or as small an occasion as you like, maybe it’s just you and a cuppa and some biscuits! Feel free to Share your pictures and tag Smile For Jasmine on Facebook or Instagram and include #irelandvirtualteaparty

“Then if you would like to donate something to ALONE Ireland any small amount (even the price of a cup of tea!) would be amazing!

“Please support this cause and allow a little time for the donation process as there is a queue at present: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/smile4jasmine“
