The number of patients with Covid-19 at Letterkenny University Hospital has reduced to 29.

The figure was 37 at the beginning of this week and 34 on Thursday.

As of Friday night, there were 29 confirmed Covid-19 cases on site at LUH and two patients in critical care beds.

Seven critical care beds are vacant at the hospital.

The latest update from the HSE comes as three more Covid-19 related deaths occurred in the North West up to Friday.

There are now 352 cases of the virus in Co. Donegal.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Republic is now 13,980 and the total deaths is 530.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) met yesterday to review Ireland’s response to Covid-19. As a result, a census of mortality across all residential care facilities will be carried out this weekend, beginning in nursing homes. The data will include all Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 deaths. Over the next week, testing of staff and residents in all long-term residential care facilities will be prioritised. It is hoped that testing capacity can be expanded to 100,000 tests per week.
