A DONEGAL father and his three sons will run a marathon within the confines of their backyard.

Buncrana man Gary Doherty and his sons Jack, Patrick and Christopher will each run just over 10k on Wednesday, May 6.

In two weeks’ time, the quartet will take to the backyard of their home at Ardaravan Heights.

“As we are confined to our home, like the vast majority of people, we will do a relay back yard marathon to raise money for front line health services,” Jack Doherty said.

“We are fortunate enough to be in good health so we have decided to play a small part for those who need it most.”

Their back yard measures 21.5m in length.

Between them, the Dohertys will have to complete 1,963 lengths of the yard to complete a standard 42.195k, marathon.

So far, they have raised over €1,300.
