‘Disgusting’ – Councillor hits out at latest illegal dumping incident

A DONEGAL County Councillor has hit out at ‘disgusting’ illegal dumping in his locality.

Residents near the town land of Egglybane contacted Castlefin-based Councillor Gary Doherty to express their fury.

Images shared show a large quantity of discarded items on the road side.

“This is disgusting behaviour and most disappointing that anyone would litter our countryside in this way,” the Sinn Féin Councillor said.

“I have received numerous other reports over the last number of weeks of the same type of incident at various locations around the area.”

Councillor Doherty is calling on Donegal County Council to install CCTV in the area, which has become a regular target for wanton dumping.

The matter has been reported by the Council.

Councillor Doherty added: “In the meantime, I would appeal to whoever is doing this to please catch yourselves on.”

His comments come just days after his Carndonagh-based colleague Councillor Albert Doherty raised similar concerns after coming across dumped car batteries and a fridge freezer among items tossed at the roadside near Lough Inn.
