Garda warning after further scam emails and texts emerge

GARDAÍ are warning the public about more scam text messaging and emails that are circulating.

Several people have contacted Gardaí in Donegal in relation to messages and emails purporting to be from Bank Of Ireland or by PayPal.

These messages state that there has been suspicious activity on your account or that your account requires verification.

People are then invited to click on a link in order to rectify the situation.

“Do not ever click on a link in these type of messages,” Gardaí said.

“Never provide personal details or financial details. Simply delete the message or email.

“If you are in doubt in relation to a message or email that you receive then please contact Bank Of Ireland or PayPal directly.

“Keep in mind that many people who receive these scam messages do not have a BOI account nor do they have a Paypal account. If you have fallen victim to a scam then please contact your local Garda Headquarters and report the matter:

Milford Gardaí 074-9153060

Buncrana Gardaí 074-9320540

Ballyshannon Gardaí 071-9858530

“Bank Of Ireland or PayPal will never send you an email or a text message with a link requesting that you provide them with personal details.”
