Gardaí aid Donegal woman and guide dog after ‘cocooning’

GARDAÍ came to the aid of a Donegal woman who worried about taking her guide dog for a walk after a period of ‘self-cocooning’.

Jackie McBrearty, who is originally from St Johnston, lives in Sligo.

Jackie reached out to Gardaí in Sligo and asked if they could assist in walking and exercising her guide dog, Rhum.

As a working dog, Rhum has to be exercised regularly.

With the restrictions being loosened and travel distance being extended to 5k, Jackie asked Gardaí if they could accompany her on a walk around the town in order to build her confidence as she had been ‘self cocooning’ as such and felt it a bit unnerving on her first few outings.

This was to help her re adapt to normal settings

Yesterday morning, Garda Conor McNulty – a native of Ballybofey who passed out from Templemore in February – was only happy to oblige and Gardaí arranged for Jackie to get a walking tour of Sligo town.
