‘Iron Man on the Ergs’ gets underway for Buncrana duo

TWO Buncrana men began their punishing Iron Man on the Ergs challenge at the crack of dawn this morning.

Oisin O’Flaherty and Conor Mulkerns have already raised over €15,000 for iCare and Whiteoaks.

Their demanding day began at 6am this morning at O’Flaherty Fitness ad Performance.

The Iron Man on the Ergs will be done on the rowing and ski machines as well the bike.

Over the course of today, with the challenge to last an estimated 12-14 hours, will see each man take on a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) ski, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) row.

“This is going to be a gruelling challenge,” Oisin had told Donegal Daily a couple of weeks ago.

“Both of these chosen organisations do fantastic work, and year after year have to source funding and rely on donations to help them keep their doors opened. We would like to take a little of that worry off their mind during this current pandemic, by raising as much money as we possibly can.”

“There are so many other fundraisers running at the moment for other brilliant causes, and it’s fantastic to see people are all pulling together at this time.”
