Minister for Health Simon Harris has urged the public to continue safely following Covid-19 restrictions this Bank Holiday weekend.
With the current spell of good weather, many small gatherings have been taking place nationwide. The current phase of restrictions allows groups of four people living within a 5km radius of each other to meet up outside once a day. People have been asked to keep a record of who they meet this weekend to help contact tracers in the event of contracting coronavirus.
Only those who live within a 5km radius from a beach may be permitted to go to the seaside.
Tweeting today, Minister Harris said: “Weekends like this are a big test for us all in our ongoing battle with Covid-19 as we go about safely enjoying the good weather and time with others outdoors.
“If we get these things right, it builds confidence for all of us and makes it easier to keep moving forward.”
Ireland is continuing to make good progress in the fight against Covid-19, the Minister said.
There are now 36 patients with Covid-19 in ICUs across Irish hospitals, compared to 160 at the peak last month. No suspected or confirmed Covid-19 patients were recorded in the Letterkenny University Hospital critical care unit last night (Saturday).
