A man was hospitalised with several injuries, including broken teeth, after a vicious roadside assault in Muff during the Bank Holiday weekend.

The man was attacked following an ‘altercation’ with a man and woman near the village centre.

The incident occurred on Saturday night/Sunday morning 31st May, when two men were walking on the Burnfoot road by the Church of Ireland.

A man and woman came towards them and a verbal altercation took place, according to gardaí.

The dispute turned physical, and one of the two males was assaulted by the man who approached them. The victim sustained injuries to his face and hands, including bruising and cuts to the face hands and a number of his teeth were broken.

He was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment.

Gardaí report that the man and woman involved were later seen getting into a taxi and heading in the border direction.

Investigators are now appealing to the taxi driver to come forward and provide information. Also, anyone who was in the area that can provide information is asked to contact gardaí in Buncrana on  074-9320540 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111.
