Gardaí have arrested another man today in relation to a shooting incident at the University of Limerick in 2015.

This is the third arrest this week in connection with the shooting of Christy Keane, after a man was arrested in Buncrana on Wednesday and another man was arrested in Limerick city.

The two men appeared before a sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday. They were John Costello (39) of Hennessy Avenue, Kileely, Co Limerick and Larry McCarthy (42) of Tower Lodge, Old Court Road, Limerick City. McCarthy was arrested at an address in Buncrana on Wednesday morning.

The third suspect, aged in his 40s, was arrested in Limerick today and is due to appear before a sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, Criminal Courts of Justice this morning at 11am.

The shooting happened at the University of Limerick in 2015.

Two masked gunmen shot a man, in his 50s, seriously injuring him as he parked his car at University of Limerick shortly after 6.30am on June 29, 2015.

Christy Keane, 59, was shot a number of times in the car park at the University of Limerick Sports arena as he attempted to go to the arena for an early morning gym session.

He managed to escape to the nearby running track where he collapsed.

He is the brother of Kieran Keane who was shot dead in 2003 at the height of a destructive and bitter feud between rival Limerick gangs, which ultimately claimed 18 lives.
