Donegal’s Penneys fans were out in force this morning to welcome the reopening of the Letterkenny Shopping Centre store.

The budget fashion store has been one of the most highly-anticipated reopenings after the Covid-19 lockdown.

Shoppers set their alarms early today to get in line for the first pick of the goods in Letterkenny. A queue formed from 8am outside the shopping centre and there has been a steady stream of shoppers since doors opened after 9am. The store was much quieter in comparison to scenes from Dublin stores reopening last weekend.

Customers will notice a few changes instore, but the layout and stock remain much the same.

Hand sanitising stations, no beauty testers and a new till layout are the biggest amendments, while new signage and dedicated staff are there to encourage hygiene practices and social distancing.

A limited number of customers will be allowed in store at one time and a queuing area has been designated outside the shopping centre to facilitate social distancing.

Letterkenny Shopping Centre Manager Brian McCracken has welcomed the reopening of all stores in the centre from today.

McCracken said: “I’m delighted to see everybody out. We have everything in place for staff and customers’ safety, with social distancing markers, hand sanitising stations and extra security and cleaning staff working hard for everyone.”

The centre had stayed open throughout lockdown for essential businesses such as Tesco supermarket, Joe’s Butchers and McFadden’s Pharmacy.

“At no time did we close, but we are happy to see all shops open now and we would encourage customers to shop local and support local now that we can do so again,” McCracken said.
