FIANNA Fáil Councillor Donal Coyle is tipped to become the new Cathaoirleach of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

Cllr Coyle (pictured above with TD Charlie McConalogue) is expected to be nominated by the party when a new Cathaoirleach is elected tomorrow.

The annual general meeting of the MD takes place tomorrow at the Aura Leisure Centre.

It is widely anticipated that Coyle will succeed Cllr John O’Donnell in the chain of office.

A native of Fanad, Coyle – a retired school principal – was elected to Donegal County Council for the first time at the 2019 Local Elections.

He polled 1,192 first preferences – the third highest number of first preferences in the area.

Coyle is a long-time soccer administrator and served for many years as Chairman of Bonagee United Football Club. He was instrumental in the development of the state-of-the-art facilities at Dry Arch Park. Coyle also serves on the Ulster Football Association and is the treasurer of the Ulster Senior League.
