TWO more patients who contracted Covid-19 have died, it has been confirmed.
The two latest deaths bring the Republic of Ireland’s death toll to 1,740.
Another nine positive cases of the coronavirus have been detected, the Department of Health says.
Since the outbreak there have now been 25,498 infections.
Dr Ronan Glynn has stepped into the role of Acting Chief Medical Officer after Dr Tony Holohan announced he would be stepping away from his position for personal reasons.
“Ireland’s 14 day incidence of Covid-19 is now less than three cases per 100,000,” Glynn said.
“This is amongst the lowest in Europe and demonstrates that the disease remains suppressed in our communities.
“The key to maintaining this status is responsible individual behaviours and avoiding any complacency.”
