Motorists in parts of West Donegal are experiencing significant disruption this afternoon following heavy rain and flooding.
There are reports of flooding in Crolly, Gweedore and Dunlewey. The Corveen road in Gweedore is impassable, there is flooding at An Chúirt Hotel in Gweedore and some diversions are in place locally.
Council staff are on the scene to try and clear main regional routes. Extra caution is being urged across the entire area this evening and tonight as more torrential rain is forecast.
A Status Yellow rain warning is in place for Donegal until 12noon Wednesday. There will be more heavy rain this evening, tonight and tomorrow morning which will give accumulations of 20 to 40mm, with potentially higher amounts in mountainous areas.
“As soils are saturated from recent rainfall this additional rainfall will lead to spot flooding,” warns Met Eireann.
