The death has occurred of former Donegal-based Detective Garda John Murphy.

John spent most of his Garda service in Milford Garda District.

He was assigned to the Detective branch in Milford Station where he was renowned to have to have the greatest local knowledge of any serving Garda in the Donegal Division.

He was originally from Belmullet in Co Mayo.

A great communicator John liked nothing better than to spot along the road and converse with young and old.

A very religious person John was a frequent attendee at the annual Lourdes pilgrimages over the years.

John was predeceased by his wife Isobel some months ago and he is survived by daughters Mary and Dearbla.

Funeral will take place after 11 am mass in St Peter Church Milford Milford on Saturday.
