REPUBLIC of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman helped surprise an inspirational young Everton fan whose fundraising efforts and dedication to the Club have seen him named Everton Fan of the Year.

Eleven-year-old Season Ticket Member Lewis Docherty received more than 1,000 nominations from fellow Evertonians for the 2019/20 Fan of the Year title – more than any supporter since the Club began presenting the award.

Lewis has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which affects his muscles and limbs, and he has undergone several operations in recent years.

Lewis was invited to a video call with Speedo Mick and Fans’ Forum Co-Vice-Chairperson Lisa Vaughan to be presented with his award, when Coleman made a surprise appearance to congratulate the youngster.

Everton’s Premier League counterparts Brighton & Hove Albion have asked Lewis and his family to be their guests of honour when the teams meet at Brighton’s Amex Stadium and once supporters are safe to return to stadiums.

💙 l The #EFC Fan of the Year, chosen by @EFC_FansForum, is Lewis Docherty!

Here's the emotional moment Lewis, 11, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, was surprised by Seamus Coleman with a special video call and presented with his award…

You're a true inspiration! 👏

The emotional video of Lewis receiving his prize, featuring a surprise guest appearance from Everton captain Seamus Coleman, captured the imagination of Brighton CEO Paul Barber, who promptly moved to reward the young supporter for “giving everyone a huge lift” following a “tough few months”.

Lewis is the first Evertonian to receive more than 1,000 nominations for the fans’ honour, with fellow supporters citing his “amazing personality” and unstinting commitment to the Club despite several hospital stays in recent years.
