YOUNG Letterkenny basketball ace Killian Gribben has been named on a 25-man Ireland Under-18 squad.

Gribben, a 17-year-old St Eunan’s College student, was selected on the squad by coach Paul Kelleher following a series of practice sessions.

The Irish squad is building towards the European Championships next summer.

Gribben is one of six players who competed earlier this month for Ireland in European qualifiers for the FIBA U17 Skills Challenge 2020. Ben Burke, Ruairi Cronin, Daniel O’Sullivan and twin brothers Sean Pollmann-Daamen and Tim Pollmann-Daamen are the others.

The towering 6’8” Gribben lines out for Letterkenny Blaze and LYIT Donegal.

Having made waves with Blaze at St Eunan’s teams, Gribben broke through to the LYIT Donegal side that competes in Division One of the National League.

A number of stellar performances with LYIT Donegal saw Gribben gain prominence.

In January, Gribben was the MVP as St Eunan’s College defeated Waterpark College in the Basketball Ireland U19 B Boys Schools Cup final.

Ireland U18 men’s head coach Paul Kelleher said: “This has been an extensive process, and one that we have thoroughly enjoyed with all the players. However, we had to make decisions and difficult one’s at that.

“We believe in this group, we have a lot of pieces that we can put together to make a cohesive unit for next summer.

“We will move forward with this group, and see what happens at the next selection phase. All our staff and very much looking forward to working with this group now.”
