Listen: Michael Mullin on importance of Saints’ survival

MICHAEL Mullin hopes St Catherine’s can kick on from their relegation scare and return to former glories.

Just five years ago, St Catherine’s were treble winners in the Premier Division, but they needed a 2-0 play-off win over Whitestrand United today to prevent a drop to Division Two.

“It’s massive,” Mullin told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“We had a tough enough year. We got a lot of the older lads back and they were very good. It brought us to this day, but we got over it. We were well drilled all week and we were set up.”

Niall Campbell opened the scoring after only four minutes while Ryan Cunningham converted a 58th minute penalty.

Mullin, who kept a clean sheet, said: “It’s good that we didn’t drop down again. It would be a massive struggle to get back.

“We have a good mix there. We have good young lads with a brilliant attitude.”
