Carndonagh competes to be Ireland’s Most Enterprising Town

The Carndonagh business community will be putting its best foot forward this week in a bid to win a Bank of Ireland Begin Together Award.

The Inishowen town is competing to be crowned Ireland’s Most Enterprising Town 2020 and to win crucial funds for its Covid-19 recovery. Judging beings on 16th September.

Carndonagh proudly won a regional award in the Bank Of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards in 2019. With the prizemoney, the town quickly invested it into revamping the local tourist office as part of the town’s development plan.

Now, the business community is chasing the title of Ireland’s ‘Most Enterprising Town’. There is also a prize of €20,000 for the winner of the ‘Rising Star’ award.

The Carndonagh Traders Association is one of the main factors in the town’s success in recent years. Established in May 2018 before the Irish Open in Ballyliffin, the association has almost 80 members who united through the good and through the tumultuous times of Covid-19.

The newly-renamed Bank of Ireland Begin Together Awards is being fast-tracked this year to provide funding to winning towns in October in order to directly assist their Covid-19 recovery.

Winners of the awards will be announced in early October with the overall winner receiving €50,000/ or sterling equivalent and the title of Ireland’s ‘Most Enterprising Town’.
