New safety measures en route for busy Letterkenny junction

New traffic calming measures are on the way for the Killylastin crossroads in Letterkenny.

The junction at Glencar and Killylastin, beside the Cill an Oir complex, has been the scene of a number of accidents recently and local councillors have been campaigning for extra safety measures to be installed.

This week, the Letterkenny Municipal District has confirmed that funding has been secured for
additional public lighting at each side of the junction, additional signage and ramps.

The funding was awarded under the Active Travel grant scheme.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan highlighted ongoing concerns with the junction at this week’s Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting.

Local councillors had requested a mini-roundabout at the site earlier this summer, but Cllr Brogan has welcomed the newly-approved measures for the safety of motorists and pedestrians and said he hopes the works will go ahead as a matter of urgency.
