Heartless thieves stole vital fire service equipment as a firecrew were carrying out a safety drill in Co Donegal.

Members of the Milford Fire Service carried out the drill on the evening of October 12th last.

They laid out all their equipment outside the fire station during the drill.

However, when they went to recover all the equipment they discovered a valuable strobe light had been stolen.

It is understood the person who stole the equipment walked towards the local chapel after the theft.

Gardai are currently viewing CCTV from the area in a bid to identify the culprit.

Garda Grainne Doherty said the emergency services are always business but especially this time of year with Halloween just around the corner.

She said “The emergency services need every piece of their equipment all year ’round and especially at this time of the year with Halloween coming on us.

“If somebody comes across this strobe light discarded somewhere we would ask them to let us know.

“Even if the person who took it wants to leave it back to the fire station or close to a Garda station we will recover it.”
