Donegal man pleads guilty to child porn charges

A DONEGAL man has pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography.

Martin Ferris (32) appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court, where he was formally arraigned.

Ferris is charged with possessing a total of 152 images and 149 movies contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.

The accused, with an address at Benildus Avenue, Ballyshannon, spoke only to plead guilty.

Ferris was charged that on April 7, 2016, at Apartment 27, Ard Adhamhnain, Sallaghraine, Letterkenny he did knowingly have in his possession child pornography, namely 152 images and 143 movies on a QNAP hard drive with children under the age of 17 engaged in and being subjected various sexual acts.

He is also charged that on the dame date and location that he did knowingly have in his possession child pornography, namely six movies on an Acer laptop where children under the age of 17 were shown with vaginal or anal regions exposed.

Barrister for Ferris, Mr Peter Nolan, asked for a probation and welfare report on the matter.

Judge John Aylmer asked that the probation and welfare report include a recommendation on suitability or otherwise for community service.

The matter was adjourned to the next term of Letterkenny Circuit Court for sentencing.
