Donegal gardaí urge motorists to check tyres

Donegal gardaí are urging motorists to check their tyres regularly as winter approaches.

According to the RSA, the minimum tread depth of your tyres should be 1.6mm (1mm on a motorcycle) but your tyres should be replaced before they reach this level.

This message comes after Donegal gardaí stopped a car with a dangerously defective tyre in Muff.

“While conducting a checkpoint in Muff village last night, Gardaí encountered a vehicle with a dangerously defective tyre. The vehicle was seized for the purpose of a PSV examination,” a spokesperson says.

“Please check your tyres regularly especially as winter is approaching. Your tyres are the only point of contact between you and the road and you rely on them to keep you and others safe when travelling.

“Ensure that your vehicle is winter ready. Start by checking your tyres!” the spokesperson concludes.
