THERE was agony for Ciara Grant and Shelbourne yesterday evening as Peamount United reclaimed the Women’s National League title.

A double from captain Aine O’Gorman gave Peamount a 3-1 win over Shelbourne at PRL Park in a winner-takes-all tie.

Grant has had an excellent first season with the Reds and was among the leading lights in a game played out in front of watching Republic of Ireland senior manager Vera Pauw.

Shels needed to win to capture the silverware while a draw would have given Peamount a chance in their final game.

However, Peamount who retained the crown with a derby win.

O’Gorman scored twice and Karen Duggan got one as they fought back from Emily Whelan’s opener for Shels to successfully defend their title.
