A NUMBER of arrests were made on Saturday following a ‘Cross Border Joint Agency Task Force Operation’.

The Operation was a joint venture between An Garda Síochána and the PSNI and intended to target rural crime.

Checkpoints were mooted along the border, some of which were attended by other specialist units.

The Road Safety Authority, Social Welfare and immigration officers were present.

A Garda spokesperson described the Operation as a ‘huge success’.

The spokesperson said: “As a result of the Operation, a number of people were arrested, several searches were conducted resulting in significant detections under the misuse of drugs act and a number of vehicles were seized Overall the operation was a huge success.’

Also yesterday, a quantity of cocaine and cash were seized following searches in the Milford District and one person was arrested.

That followed a similar incident on Friday morning, when what was described as a ‘substantial amount’ of class A and class B drugs as well as cash were seized in the Ballymacool area of Letterkenny.

Meanwhile, a woman was arrested following a number of shoplifting offences in Letterkenny and is due to appear at a future sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
