Champions League agony for Tyler Toland and Glasgow

TYLER Toland was denied a memorable first Champions League goal last night as Glasgow City bowed out of the competition.

Glasgow trailed Sparta Prague 2-1 from the first leg of their last-32 encounter and Lucie Martinkova stretched the advantage after just seven minutes.

Martinkova riffled past Lee Alexander and it was a long way back.

Toland has been impressive in recent times for Scott Booth’s team, having joined on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

The St Johnston woman looked to have reduced the arrears with a stunning 30-yard strike, but the referee, Silvia Andreia Rosa Domingos, disallowed the effort for a foul in the build-up.

The Czechs finished with 10 players after Pavlina Nepokojova was sent off while Leanne Ross saw a late penalty saved.
