Hospitals in Ireland are today dealing with the highest number of Covid-19 patients since the pandemic began.
As of this morning, 921 patients are being treated for Covid-19 in Ireland. Seventy-five of those are in ICU. The figures are higher than the peak reached in April 2020.
Data from Letterkenny University last night showed that there are 41 patients with Covid-19 being treated onsite, including four critical care patients. The hospital is at capacity, with zero general care and zero critical care beds available.
HSE CEO Paul Reid commented this morning: “Healthy people are getting very sick. Everyone gets how serious this is now. Let’s all do what’s needed, turn this around, save lives, whilst the vaccine arrives. We have to.”
