Donegal County Council is being urged to support residents of Oldtown Letterkenny as they aim to breathe new life into the area.
A dedicated community group has set out to improve the residential area, where there is a lack of recreation facilities for younger people.
Councillor Ciaran Brogan said it is important that residents are supported with their goals.
“I think there is great community there at the minute and I think it is important we engage and support them as a council,” Cllr Brogan told this month’s Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District meeting.
He asked that the Community and Enterprise division could meet with locals to listen to and address concerns.

Ongoing issues in Oldtown include the football pitch, which is in need of restoration, and anti-social behaviour.
“There is a particular problem there at the minute with the lifebuoy rings which are regularly being stolen at the footbridge,” said Cllr Gerry McMonagle. “This group is doing great work trying to locate them and try and prevent these anti social actions.”
Cllr McMonagle suggested that CCTV could be installed to support those who are trying to develop the area in a positive way, “as opposed to negative stuff happening around the lifebuoys”.
Another positive project could be the restoration of the old iron bridge, Cllr Brogan said.
“The locals are very passionate about the old linkage to the Oldtown area and I think this is one area that can be looked at,” Cllr Brogan said.
“I believe when there is a strong community, we as a council should engage with them, support them and hopefully we can put some funding in their direction.”
