Major power outage leaves over 1,400 in darkness

OVER 1,400 homes in east Donegal are in darkness this evening.

A major power outage has left 1,406 customers without electricity in the Finn Valley area.

The fault was first reported just before 5.15pm.

The ESB say that they estimate that it will be 9.30pm for power to be restored.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault and will restore power as quickly as possible.”

Castlefin-based Councillor Gary Doherty said: “I’ve just been in contact with ESB, they are aware and are currently investigating to try and get power restored as soon as possible.

“This is a strange one, some people have no power, some have limited power and some have full power!

“ESB have advised people getting limited power to turn off ‘sensitive electronic equipment’ such as TVs and laptops as they will be constantly trying to turn on despite the low voltage coming in and could get damaged.”
