Breaking: Level 5 until March 5 as new travel measures to be introduced

LEVEL 5 Covid-19 restrictions will be in place until at least March 5.

The Cabinet sub-committee has agreed that the measures will be extended until March 5.

The full Cabinet will meet tomorrow to formally sign off on the proposal.

The Government is to work to reopen schools on an incremental basis, beginning with those in special education.

A number of strict measures will be introduced tomorrow around travel.

There will be a mandatory quarantine for anyone traveling into the country without a negative PCR test.

All passengers from high-risk areas, such as Brazil or South Africa, will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine.

People will have to pay for their stay in quarantine hotels and will get a Covid-19 test, which they will also pay for, after five days. If that test returns negative, they will be permitted to leave.

There will be increased Garda checkpoints near airports and ports.

If travellers are returning from abroad without an ‘essential’ reason for travel, they will be fined for breaching the 5km travel restriction.

The €100 fine for such a breach is also to be increased.
