January 26, 2021

A RAMELTON man who appeared in court on several driving charges has been spared a prison sentence.

Kieran Devenney (44) of Cul na Cuille, Rectory Road, Ramelton was before Letterkenny District Court on charges relating to an incident on October 13, 2018.

Devenney was charged with dangerous driving at Ardumman, Glenleary and Newmill, Ramelton on the date in question.

Devenney was also charged with driving with no driving licence, driving with no insurance and with a failure to produce documents.

The accused completed the Pro Social driving course recently.

Addressing Judge Paul Kelly, Devenney said: “I learned a lot. I wont be back here for a driving offence ever again.”

Judge Kelly said he would ‘take a chance’ on Devenney.

“The probation service tell me that you have got yourself sorted out,” Judge Kelly said.

The dangerous driving charges were reduced to careless driving and Devenney was fined €250.

For driving with no insurance, Devenney was sentenced to 60 hours of community service, in lieu of three months imprisonment.

Devenney was also disqualified from driving for a period of two years from May 1, 2021.

The other charges were struck out.
