THE Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has said that the Department is planning a phased return of all school students in March.
Ms Foley has told colleagues that it is her wish that all students return to the classroom next month.
Department officials are meeting with public health chiefs today to discuss the matter.
Yesterday, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said a return to school had to be a first priority, but that it had to be done cautiously on a phased basis.
He said the country was going in the right direction to enable schools to reopen, but progress in reducing infection numbers over the coming weeks needs to be seen.
The Government’s Education Committee will meet tomorrow when the 2021 Leaving Cert will be discussed.
