A fund has been started after a man’s home was gutted by fire in Rathmullan.

Firefighters battled bravely to save the home of 76-year-old Gerry Ward, Red Brae, Rathmullan on Monday evening.

Two units of the Donegal Fire Service from Milford and Letterkenny fought to bring the blaze under control but the house was gutted.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt as a result of the blaze.

A ‘Go Fund Me Page’ has been set up to help restore the damage done. The page can be accessed on https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-gerry-ward-get-back-on-his-feet?qid=41af3762044978de5bd7da57b6d31e98

Organiser Megan Hunter said “This has been a horrendous year for us all but one thing we realised is that we have a great community who helped pull us through and now I’m setting up this page to help Gerry, with permission from his family.

“Gerry will need to buy absolutely everything as he got out with only the clothes on his back.

“We also want to try to cover the costs of the multiple fire services that helped to extinguish the flames. He is one of the good guys of the world and he deserves our help so even if you can donate a euro or so, let’s help him get back his independence.”

Donation buckets are also in Carberry’s Shop, the Post Office and the Pharmacy in Rathmullan.
