Sean Boyd set for Finn Harps return ahead of new season

STRIKER Sean Boyd will be back at Finn Harps for the 2021 season.

The 22-year-old Dubliner has recovered from a knee injury and will be confirmed as a Harps player ahead of the new campaign.

This will be Boyd’s second spell by the Finn with the player having featured in pre-season.

In early 2019, Boyd scored two goals in 15 appearances for Harps after moving on loan from Shamrock Rovers.

Boyd was at Longford Town for the latter period of the 2019 campaign before being released by Rovers.

At 17, he scored for Rovers in a Dublin derby win over Bohemians in July 2016.

In December 2019, while playing with the PFAI team in England as he attempted to earn a contract, Boyd suffered a serious knee injury.

The player was forced to sit out the 2020 season and undergo extensive rehab after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament, but has been coaxed back to Finn Park by boss Ollie Horgan.

Harps have also added former FC United of Manchester striker Tunde Owolabi to their ranks with the 25-year-old unveiled yesterday by the club.

Harps overcame Athlone Town 3-1 in a friendly on Saturday with goals from Ethan Boyle, Shane McEleney and an own goal.

Harps take on Cork City next weekend in Dublin before they host Bohemians on Saturday, March 20, in their first Premier Division game of the 2021 season.

The game has been changed from its original March 19 date.
