An extensive search in the water off Buncrana pier has been stood down.
The alarm was raised after 7.20pm this evening following reports of people in distress in the water.
Gardaí were on the scene, while two RNLI lifeboats and the Rescue 118 helicopter were tasked to the area by Malin Head Coast Guard.
The coast guard helicopter searched the area, but with no further signs of emergencies, the crew is now returning to base.
Local RNLI lifeboats returned to Ned’s Point and Buncrana Pier before 10pm.
