ST JOHNSTON teenager Cate Toland made her first appearance for Northern Ireland at the weekend.

The 16-year-old played for the Northern Ireland Under-19s in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Sion Swifts.

Toland is on the books of Sion Swifts, but was drafted into the NI squad by manager Alfie Wylie.

Sion Swifts won the game, played across three periods of 30 minutes each on Sunday, 3-2.

Previously, her cousin Chris Porter played for Northern Ireland’s under-16s in 2005.

Deele College student Toland is the younger sister of Tyler Toland, the Manchester City player who is on load to Glasgow City. Capped 13 times by the Republic of Ireland at senior level.

The midfielder has been ostracised from the set-up under Vera Pauw. She hasn’t featured since scoring in a 2-0 win over Montenegro in September 2019.
