Window draughts blowing curtains in council houses

Curtains blowing as a result of draughty windows are preventing some council house tenants from watching their TVs.

The comment was made by Councillor Gary Doherty at this week’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD).

The Castlefin-based Sinn Fein representative said there was a desperate need for window and door replacement in the MD.

“The allocation we got for that is woefully inappropriate. Windows and doors in these estates are deplorable,” he said.

“To be honest, I think €1.2 million allocation is only enough for one estate. Some residents can’t see the TV for the curtains blowing in the wind.”

Olive Gillespie, of the council’s Housing and Corporate Services, said she will look at window and door refits in the next programme.

She added that there will be a ten year rollover programme and that more funds will be allocated to the council for such works.
