The inspiration Applegreen Buncrana team have won a walking challenge – and great praise – after raising almost €2,000 for Pieta.
Seven staff members went above and beyond for the 31 for 31 Challenge in March. The goal was to walk 31 half marathons in one month, which was around 3.5km daily per team member.
The Applegreen Buncrana team had many personal motivations for tackling the challenge, with some team members recovering from Covid-19, some having lost loved ones and some not being able to see loved ones for over a year. But they stayed optimistic as they stepped up to the challenge.
It’s safe to say they smashed it by doing 1978.94 kms in the month!
Several other Applegreen sites took part in the challenge, with the Buncrana team emerging as the winners in the half-marathon category.
The ‘Red Hot Chilli Steppers’ were: Robert Nortje, Elaine Orr, Alex Orr, Dinny Clinton, Edyta Olszewska, Marvin Mulhern and David Hone.
Elaine Orr said: “The craic we had was great within our team.
“We all absolutely loved it, there was 23 teams in total involved all around the country so were delighted to be the winners in our category (there was a full marathon category)
“Obviously the cause was great and fundraising consisted of family, friends and customers donating with a total of €1728 raised.
“We would like to thank every single person who donated for the Pieta House.”
