An important ‘virtual’ meeting of the Gaeltacht Láir Language Planning Committee will take place next week.

This is a voluntary committee whose function is to oversee the language planning process in the Gaeltacht Láir, which covers the Glenfin, Fintown, Edeninfagh and Doochary areas.

A chairperson, deputy chairperson and ordinary members will be elected at the meeting.

With regards to the language plan, the first draft will soon be ready to submit to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and  Gaeltacht for approval.

Once approved, a Language Planning Officer will be hired, and that person will be responsible for implementing the Gaeltacht Láir Language Plan in the area.

The officer will work in partnership with the committee and the lead organisation, Gleann Fhinne CFTR.

A meeting will be held on Thursday, April 22, at 6.30pm on Zoom in order to elect members to the committee.

If you’re interested in attending the meeting, and/or putting your name forward for one of the roles on the committee, just contact Language Planning Consultant, Barra Ó Scannláin.

Barra can be contacted at barraoscannlain@gmail.com or 0873273070 to get the Zoom link. All residents of the Gaeltacht Láir area are welcome to take part.
