AN EU-wide digital certificate is to be introduced this summer – a move that could signal a return of international travel.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar told a Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting that a vaccine passport could be used for travel.
It is expected that the digital certificates will be brought into being in June.
Such a measure could pave the way for a return of foreign holidays, but Varadkar and Taoiseach Micheál Martin have both indicated that June will be too early to resume.
Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney said yesterday: “Certainly, at some stage over the next number of months, I think you will see the benefit of the potential for international travel again, working through that green passport system.”
