The Department of Social Protection (DSP) is aware of fraudulent phone calls and text messages claiming to be from their staff seeking personal information.
The scam callers are asking for details such as PPS numbers and bank account details. “Our staff will never ask you for your bank details over the phone,” a DSP spokesperson said.
“They will also never seek personal information from you by text message. “If you receive such a call or text, please do not engage with the caller and do not share any part of your PPS number, bank account details or any other personal information with them.”
If you have provided any such information to a call or text that you believe to be a scam, please contact the Gardaí immediately. Please view advice from Gardaí here.
“We urge people to be extremely cautious if they receive such a call or text message seeking their personal information and to ensure that they only use official Departmental websites e.g. www.Gov.ie/dsp and www.MyWelfare.ie. People are advised to carefully examine the web address (http) to ensure they are using official Departmental websites.”
