Imitation firearm recovered after incident at Castlefin shop

A man was arrested after an incident at a shop in Castlefin on Thursday evening.

A follow-up search of a house in the town resulted in an imitation firearm being seized.

Gardai have confirmed to Donegal Daily that a man in the house was “temporarily restrained.”

However, this man was not arrested.

Instead, a man in his 20s was arrested nearby at a different dwelling in relation to the investigation.

The man was taken to Letterkenny Garda station and questioned but was released.

Donegal Daily understands that the first man detained by Gardai had to receive hospital attention.

Gardai confirmed a full investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“Gardaí responding to an incident that occurred at a retail premises on the evening of Thursday, 29th April, 2021, in Castlefin, County Donegal, conducted a search under warrant of a residence in the Castlefin area later that evening.

“During the course of this search an imitation firearm was seized and one male occupant was temporarily restrained.

“A separate man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in relation to this investigation. He was detained at Letterkenny Garda Station and has since been released pending further investigations.”

Gardai also confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
