The Save Inishowen from Gold Mining (SIGM) campaign is urging members of the public to lodge more objections to the renewal of a prospecting licence on the peninsula.

The group is calling on as many people as possible to make an objection to the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment ahead of its decision on whether or not to grant another licence to Arkle Resources. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, May 12.

The company is seeking a permit to prospect for gold in a number of townlands across Inishowen. The locations include remote areas of Carndonagh, Quigley’s Point and Whitecastle.

Spokesperson for SIGM, Rose Kelly, said that more than 500 objections have been lodged to date.
